“I am very grateful for this emergency grant that helped me economically. It helped me to feel less stressed and to successfully fulfill my goals”, says Forestry student Micaela Cobo from Ecuador. One year ago, when the pandemic hit us all unexpectedly and hard, our alumni overwhelmed us with their support. We raised over € 90.000 for students in financial need due to the corona crisis and could quickly support numerous Göttingen students. International students tell how valuable the emergency aid was to them.
The emergency aid benefited medical student Nancy Shehata from Egypt and helped her to bridge a really difficult semester: "Especially during the pandemic its harder and harder to get a part time job." Nancy's parents are of course affected by the crisis too and cannot support her financially right now. It is even more difficult for students with children. Ramesha Nirmali and her family received the emergency aid last year as well. “When I gave birth to my baby, in order for me to continue my studies, my husband could not work because he had to take care of the baby. Therefore, we faced a lot of economic difficulties,” says the agricultural student from Sri Lanka. The corona pandemic poses challenges for our students. Like Micaela, Nancy and Ramesha, they find themselves in need because they can neither count on the support of their parents nor on national aid. International students and students with disabilities and chronic diseases are particularly affected.
Many thanks to all supporters who contributed and donated. Thanks to you, we were able to support quickly numerous Göttingen students who were in financial need due to the corona crisis. In total we raised € 90,975 – we are impressed and so grateful! Without the donations from our alumni, the professorship of the University of Göttingen and many friends, the overall result would not have been possible. Together for the good of all #ZumWohleAller.
